WINNER, BOOKFEST AWARD – HORROR

Resisting him is impossible. Surviving him? Even harder.

1897, Millersburg, Ohio. In the heart of devout Amish country, a chilling darkness takes root. Silas Hemfant arrives preaching salvation, his charm undeniable, his promises intoxicating. But beneath the surface of his ministry lies an ancient, unholy hunger — a charismatic vampire building an immortal legion by harvesting the blood and souls of the faithful.

Young Miriam Yoder, torn between tradition and a forbidden fascination with the enigmatic prophet, senses the encroaching evil. But can she resist the allure of Silas's power, even as it forces her towards choices that defy her Amish faith and threaten her very soul?

Meanwhile, two disparate souls converge on Millersburg's deadly secrets: Brannigan Rafferty, a cynical celebrity author famous for occult tales he doesn't believe are real, and Sheriff Flynn, a lawman haunted by past failures and driven by a thirst for vengeance against a supernatural evil he barely comprehends.

As their paths collide amidst moonlit fields and shadowed barns, a shadow war erupts. Faith becomes a weapon, terrifying secrets unravel, and righteousness proves the most dangerous mask of all in this gripping historical horror adventure.

Unique take on religious cults

Life is in the Blood is a book that has you guessing on each page. The two heroes take on a range of evil, some where you wonder what side they’re actually on. The question is: who wins in the end.

Excellent horror story!!!

I purchased this book from the author's website, but I wanted to leave a review here for the Amazon shoppers.Daniel Bautz creates a cast of colorful characters in Life is in the Blood. This is a time piece that takes place in the Midwest during America's Reconstruction. The author takes the 'good vs evil' storyline to an entirely new level. Two men follow a bloody trail across Southern Ohio, putting one of the men in uncomfortable surroundings that he is not accustomed to. Many other characters and POVs round out the story, but it never gets confusing jumping from scene to scene. The vivid descriptions make it a must-read novel for all horror fans.Job well done!!!

Beware of False Prophets

I love a good horror novel, but often I don't get very far into them. That wasn't the case with Life Is in the Blood. I read the first couple of chapters and immediately loved the boldness of the plot. As I ventured further, I grew to love the relationships between the characters, especially Flynn and Brannigan. There was a True Grit feel to these guys. Every character was distinct, as were the communities in which they lived, and Bautz can write multiple POVS convincingly. There's some quirky habits he has with grammar, which might have stopped me if the plot wasn't so damn good! If you are a grammar zealot, like me, don't stop reading. The story is too good to leave. I look forward to reading more by Bautz!

A Midnight Mass Cult Supernatural Mystery

*SPOILER FREE*This is supernatural meets cult meets mystery. This is a story that is well paced and HUGE. This was not a story tossed together in a rush, but well built and slow cooked.I loved it and the dynamic characters - there was a so much going on, so much plot building, and it gave me all the cult vibes a girl could ever ask for.I say no spoilers but let's be real, Silas is my favorite. I'll give no detail and leave it there. He was such a cool and intriguing character and anyone who can lead a cult is my kind of guy.A must read!!

When the worst evil wears the face of good ... nothing good can come from it.

The author does a terrific job weaving the religious themes with dark legends in a genre-bending epic that will keep you up past your bedtime. The powerful storytelling keeps the plot moving and I couldn’t read it fast enough.

Life is in the Blood is a page turning horror novel full of action, adventure, gore and thrills!

Love the characters but my personal fav is Flynn. I usually root for the bad guy, but I found myself pulling for the heroes. Love the interactions between Flynn and Brannigan! Miriam & Rose are very strong dominating female characters. I'll describe Rose as Beth Dutton-esque and Miriam as Elsa Dutton-esque! The characters are so well drawn and the relationships between them has me missing them after finishing the book. So many darn memorable moments! Be careful where you walk when investigating an old barn! You've been warned! Fantastic read for a debut novel, I can't recommend enough! AND, I hope the author is already working on a sequel!

“For the life of the flesh is in the blood!”

Life Is In The Blood by: Daniel Bautz5⭐️’s"We must partake in the lamb's sacrifice to maintain our wellness. Why do we drink from the cup? For the life of the flesh is in the blood!" With a gulp, he drank, red liquid dripped from the corner of his mouth. "Come and partake! Feel God's power poured into you."Silas - is a prophet of the lord. Or so he wants those around him to believe so. Silas goes from town to town to gain followers for his congregation. Bringing with him the power to heal the sick and dying.Brannigan - is an author who writes ghost stories that have made him quite famous. His publisher agrees to send him on a research expedition. To look into a potential new story, that came from a news clipping out of Missouri.Flynn - is the law in Missouri. Who is assigned to show Brannigan around the location of where the article was written about.Brannigan and Flynn begin at a home where a horrible incident occurred. While there, they capture and transport a prisoner who may be able to help find what they are looking for. They then travel north. Stopping at other locations were tales of a tall, slim built man who preaches the word of the lord and preforms miracles in his name has been.As they get closer to Silas, more deaths seem to pile up. While the prisoner that Brannigan and Flynn have in custody begins to do things that seem impossible and unnatural.Brannigan and Flynn have no idea what is waiting for them when they find Silas. While Silas is playing chess,Brannigan and Flynn are playing checkers.I really enjoyed this telling of a vampire tale. There is a lot packed into this story right from the beginning! While keeping the pace just right.Daniel’s storytelling keeps you wanting to read more with every page. The characters have great depth. That shows just how much of Daniel’s heart and soul went into this amazing story!Life Is In The Blood by Daniel Bautz will be available on February 6, 2023 from Anatolian Press on Amazon.
